Hard Mode
Edlintium is a small town that sits on the edge of a deep forest known as the Darkwood. This sleepy town on the edge of the world has played host to many legends and a veritable library of lore. Locals tell stories of lost artifacts, ancient cults, and many a creature known to go bump in the night. Throughout the ages it’s become harder and harder to separate fact from fiction and as the fogs of Fall settle in on Edlintium it looks like this year will be another strange tale for the lore masters.
The Merchant
A shadier neer-do-well you’ll find nowhere. This trenchcoated creeper can be found in town and is known for engaging in underhanded deals. His ties reach back before the Raven Cults of Darkwood. His mischievous smile is not to be trusted. This huckster can be tied to nearly every disaster to befall the town in the last 500 years. Whether it’s the same being and he’s just that ancient or he’s just one in a line of tragic bad omens isn’t known for sure. He’s been seen skulking around the Darkwood picking the bones of the dead and damned. Seeking him out may be to your advantage but watch your wallet and your back
The Custodian
A raving mad man living on the edges of the Darkwood. Once said to be a learned scholar but now lives as a forecaster of destruction. Each week he wanders through the town ranting about how we sit on the edge of a new apocalypse. Locals have tried to throw him out again and again but it seems some trinket or other that he carries protects him from harm. Though there is a chance that the rumors of his ties to old magic may be true. It could even explain his lack of sanity. Avoid him unless you wish to be wrapped up on one of his quest to “save the town”. Though he was right that one time...
The Carney
A being of chaos that always seems to end up in town just before things go wrong. His cheshire grin has lured in countless townies and travelers alike. No one’s ever won big at his games but that means it’s bound to happen someday soon right? His games aren't rigged per say but even if you win the game you’ll find yourself wondering what it cost you to play. A true being of chaos he’s best avoided unless you wish to pit your life against your luck.
The Witch
A myth of the Darkwood. Local legends claim that when the Raven Cult fell apart and the wood was set to flame something dark and hideous rose from the ashes and gathered the remains of the flock. Whenever the wind bellows strong on dark nights you can hear an eerie soul shivering laughter echoing from the trees of the Darkwood. Some say that’s the witch of the Darkwood. One thing is for sure. Each and every time the winds bring another structure to the earth, you'd find a crooked shadow stalking through the remains like a lone vulture amongst the crows. If you find yourself unlucky enough to spot her, run as fast as you can and don’t trust the winds.
